Today, many believe in the power of “positive thinking” to help turn their lives around. It really doesn’t matter what name you want to give it whether it’s The Law of Attraction, Manifestation, Meditation, Crystals or whatever it’s basically the same thing because it all incorporates the need to use positive thinking. For non-believers to be successful they must visualize what they want, practice a positive mind set, repeat daily mantras, wear certain type of beads, place crystals throughout their home, or leave themselves little yellow sticky notes all over their refrigerator, mirrors or computer to attract those things to them.
But non-believers aren’t the only ones practicing this technique, in fact, many Christians have also adopted this “new thought” or “new philosophy” into their daily lives. But instead they use Biblical scriptures to set them on the path of success. Repeating scriptures to build your faith in God is wonderful, but, is this “actually” biblical for building success? Look what Jesus says in Matthew;
For where your treasure is, there your heart [your wishes, your desires; that on which your life centers] will be also. No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon [money, possessions, fame, status, or whatever is valued more than the Lord].
Matthew 6:21&24
This “new philosophy” which uses scriptures are nothing more than the teaching of The Law of Attraction, it’s the same process just in a different wrapper! The Law of Attraction believes you can “manifest” your heart desires through the “power” of positive thinking. Because you attract what you think or believe in.
But here’s the kicker, this “new philosophy” actually places “us” before GOD. If we’re using “scriptures” such as Isaiah 40:31 or Philippians 4:13 as some magical success formula, then you’re misusing God’s Word. See the danger here? Misusing GOD’s word and placing “ourselves” above GOD as if “we” can control everything through positive thinking. Look what the Bible says about this;
Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of Lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
James 1:17
While there is nothing wrong with positive thinking or repeating scriptures to help build your faith, when we put ourselves first, it becomes unbiblical.
The “Law of Attraction” is indeed new age woo woo hogwash. Alas, as you said, people of all beliefs subscribe to such nonsense.
