My journey through the scriptures has made me realize just how worldly and imperfect mankind really is. While some Christians may not recognize it or feel there’s anything wrong with just living their life (aka being worldly), I’ve been given a different perspective by the Spirit and God’s Word, the Bible.
What exactly does walking worldly mean?
It means living a life that is devoted to a materialistic, carnal mindset and putting God on the back burner. Unfortunately today there are Christians who continue to live this lifestyle, but, what does the Bible say?
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but
those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set
the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
Romans 8:5,6
While the Apostle Paul in these scriptures are speaking directly to believers, they also apply to those who are atheist, pagan, wiccan, agnostic, are any non-believer. But let’s take a closer look so we can gain a little more insight into what the Apostle Paul is referring to. In Galatians he breaks it down further when he states;
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual
immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy,
outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties,
and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that
sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
Galatians 5:19-21
As a Christian if you find yourself somewhere in this list, please repent, ask forgiveness and get yourself back on track. Because the Apostle Paul tells us, believers, that we should be walking by the Spirit. But how can we be sure we’re walking by the Spirit? We know we’re walking by the Spirit when our actions, thoughts, our mindset, our character reflect the fruit of the Spirit, which the Apostle Paul says is;
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22,23
As a Christian having a worldly mindset and lifestyle just isn’t worth it. We’ve been renewed, given a new Spirit and we are to set our minds on the things above and not on earthly things. Are did you forget, when the Apostle Paul says;
Those who belong to Christ Jesus has nailed the passions and
desires of their sinful nature to His cross and crucified them there.
Galatians 5:24
