Righteous in Our Own Eyes

Before I learned about the Lord and His teachings, I thought I was a good person. I said all the right things, did all the right things, was more than willing to help anyone I could. But little did I realize I was righteous in my own eyes. And many are experiencing this same thing in our world today whether one calls themself a Christian or not.

So don’t be surprised to learn that the word righteous is replaced with words like good, decent, noble, ethical, and trustworthy to name a few. We don’t really think about it until we hear someone say, she’s a good person, or, you can trust them, they’re trustworthy. And when we hear this we should ask ourselves, by whose standard of measure are they using? Is it from a biblical standard, or, a worldly standard? Because there is a difference and to emphasize this point I turn to one of my favorite Parables, the Pharisee and Tax Collector. Jesus starts off by saying;

Luke 18:10,14 – Two men went up to the temple to pray. One was a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed, ‘God, I thank you that I am not like the other men – swindlers, evildoers, adulterers or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and pay tithes of all I acquire.’ But the tax collector stood at a distance, unwilling to even lift up his eyes to heaven. Instead, he beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man, rather than the Pharisee, went home justified. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.

To me this is a perfect representation of what Jesus spoke about throughout His whole ministry. The need to recognize that we are all sinners and be willing to humble ourselves and repent of our sins. But Jesus also said in Matthew 9:12,13;

But when He heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.” For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.

Many of us are righteous in our own eyes, but, it’s those who know they are sinners, it’s those who cry out to God in desperation because of their own wrongdoing, it’s those who grieve over their sins, and it’s those who speak from their heart that God is truly looking for.

Not those who are righteous in their own eyes!

False Prophets and Their Fruits

Today I was watching a Christian YouTuber who goes by the name of Glasshouse teaching on the subject of false prophets. The video I watched is entitled, WARNING: NOT Everyone Who Calls Jesus Lord Goes To Heaven! You must click on the link to watch the video.

This is a subject I’ve talked about several times on my sight, but, Glasshouse approached it a bit differently. He explains the complete context of some of the same scriptures I referred to. As Christians I want to encourage each of you to watch his video and share with a friend because it is a eyeopener. The video is only 11 minutes and 33 seconds. So please take a few minutes to watch it.

Remember what Jesus said, You will know them by their fruit!

These scriptures in John 1 shows us that Jesus is the Word of God and is God and that he made everything.

These scriptures also say that Jesus gives life and the life was the light of men.

The life Jesus gives us is our own spirit that is given to all humans at conception, without our own spirit we could not live and grow.

In the Old Testament and New Testament, the scriptures say that God the Father gave us all our own spirit:

Hebrews 12:9 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live!

Numbers 27:16 “May the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation

Zechariah 12:1 An oracle of the word of the LORD concerning Israel. Thus declares the LORD, who stretches out the heavens and lays the foundation of the earth, who forms the spirit of man within him:

Our spirit is a light within us.

Proverbs 20:27 The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

Proverbs 20:20 Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

Now read these scriptures, it says plainly that Jesus is life and the life that was the light of men, that he lighteth every man that cometh into the world.  The Old Testament scriptures say God the Father is the one who gives all humans their spirit that gives them light.  This proves that Jesus is God the Father come in the flesh as a son.

What Jesus Can Do ~

In A Broken World

In a broken world,

Think of Others

Often we get so caught up in our daily lives that we fail to see the hurt and pain someone else maybe going through. I’m reminded of the biblical story where Jesus was asked to dinner by one of the Pharisees named Simon.

As Jesus sat down to eat, a woman came in bringing a flask of fragrant oil and stood at His feet behind Him weeping. It’s at this point she begins to wash His feet with her tears and wipe them off with her hair. Then she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil. When the Pharisees saw this he remarked to himself, “This man, if He were a Prophet would know what type of woman was touching Him, a sinner.

Jesus tells a story to Simon about two debtors who owed money to a creditor. One debtor owed 500 denarii and the other debtor owed 50 denarii. Neither had no way of repaying the debt so the creditor forgave them both. Jesus asked Simon, who do you think will love him more? Simon answered, “I suppose the one who owed more.” Jesus said to Simon, you have rightly judged.

Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, Do you see this woman? I entered you house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in. You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil. Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is for forgiven, loves little. Then He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
Luke 7:44-48

We never know what someone may be dealing with. Traumatic issues can occur in numerous way and may appear as family issues, breakups, the loss of a child, medical issues, loneliness or mental anguish. I know as a Christian, we are to encourage, build each other up, but, one scripture which really stands out to me, reads;

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or empty pride, but in
humility consider others more important than yourselves.

Philippians 2:3

Just like the woman, I want to have that same kind of love that she demonstrated for Christ, with my brothers, sisters and yes, even my enemies.

Hearts Far From Me

This people draw near to me with their
mouth, and respect Me with their lips,
but their heart is far from Me.

Everything transpiring in our world today proves the accuracy of the Scriptures, because, they speak of the breakdown within society. Even Christians seem to be following the ways of this world instead of the way of God. Many Christians may go to church, say the right words, do the right things when others are looking, but, when they’re alone do their hearts truly reflect drawing near to Him? These are these things each of us need to reflect on because God wants us to draw near to Him. Ask Him to evaluate your heart so you can grow in Him, praise and worship Him the way He deserves to be worshipped. Remember, the Pharisees and Sadducees had this same issue, they said the right things and appeared to do the right things when others were looking, but, behind close doors their hearts were far from God.

My Prayer

Lord, My God, I pray for a heart that is tender, merciful, compassionate and loving for my fellow man. Lord please evaluate my heart and if there is anything displeasing found let me know so I can repent of it and replace it with actions that are righteous in Your sight. I pray to help keep my thoughts pure, focused on You so I can meditate and reflect on Your Ways instead of the ways of this world. Keep my tongue cleansed from this worldly flesh so I can offer words of encouragement that bring comfort and healing. Teach me Your Ways, Lord, and keep fleshly desires and temptations far from me. Thank you for Your Grace through faith in Christ, the Lord Jesus, who gave His life for the world. All these things I pray, in Christ Jesus name, Amen!

Believe What?

The people who believe in the false faith alone doctrine try to prove their false teachings by giving a scripture that says we have to believe.

This is an actual person’s comment to me who believes in the false faith alone doctrine:

“I guess the Savior just forgot to mention the other things which you say are necessary for salvation. “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life” (Jn.6:47).”

My reply is that all the scriptures where Jesus says to believe, they do not nullify the scriptures where Jesus says we have to obey.

Imagine from the beginning of time, people believed in God and believed they had to obey Him, but then this man named Jesus comes and tells the people they now have to go through him to continue to believe in God. They had to believe that they now have to obey this man named Jesus, who is called the son of God. Jesus isn’t saying we only have to believe in him and not do anything else. We have to believe that we have to obey this man named Jesus, the son of God

John 8:51 I tell you the solemn truth, if anyone obeys my teaching, he will never see death.”

Believe What?

The Way

For approximately the past couple of weeks I kept noticing a certain phrase that appeared as I would read the New Testament scriptures. I believe the Holy Spirit was drawing my attention to it because I was so perplexed that I did a quick search of the Old Testament scriptures and continued the search into the New Testament. What I found left me a bit stunned and amazed.

You see, the phrase I kept noticing during my reading was the phrase, The Way. And as I researched it I soon realized there was much more to this than the simplicity of a phrase. But there are several scriptures which really stood out to me which reflect what the Way is, they read;

Isaiah 55:8,9 ESV – For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My Ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My Ways higher than your ways and My Thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 35:8 BSB – And there will be a highway called The Way of Holiness. The unclean will not travel it – only those who walk in The Way – and fools will not stray onto it.

Isaiah 40:3 ISR – The voice of one crying in the wilderness, “Prepare The Way of Yehovah (Jehovah); make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

An additional list of some of the scriptures I found are linked and I suggest reading each one so you can better grasp what I’m suggesting. These are Isaiah 2:3, Jeremiah 6:16, Psalms 25:8, Genesis 18:19, Malachi 3:1, Mark 12:14, Acts 9:2, 2 Peter 2:21, Luke 20:21, Romans 3:17, Acts 16:17, and Acts 24:14. But one of those which really stood out and made a big impression on me is what Jesus said when He stated;

Matthew 7:14 BSB – But small is the gate and narrow The Way that leads to life, and only a few find it.

But your probably wondering what exactly does this mean?

First of all, from the Old Testament when one followed God they were following His Righteous and just Ways and so it was known as, The Way. At the time of Jesus, it was stilled referred to as The Way. In fact, the word Christianity is never mentioned in the Bible and didn’t originate until 100 CE found in the writings of Ignatius. Ignatius argued that practitioners of Judaism embraced Christianity (Epistle to the Magnesians 10). Ignatius argues that practitioners of Judaism (early followers of Jesus) “embraced” a new religion called “Christianity,” thus Christians should not practice Judaism. But this is untrue, because we know from scripture that Jesus stated;

Jesus said to him, I am The Way,
the Truth and the Life. No one comes
to the Father except through Me.

John 14:6

While we know the word Christianity is not found within the Bible, Christian is. The first occurrence is Acts 11:26 and it’s mentioned a couple more times. But the Way spoken of in the Old Testament means simply following God’s Righteous and Just Ways. God gave these righteous ways to His people and is often referred to as the 10 Commandments, the Law of Moses or the Mosiac Law. But the Old Covenant was replaced during the time of Jesus by the atonement He made by His blood which He shed on the Cross. The Old Testament scriptures provide us a look as to what that New Covenant would look like, the scriptures read;

I will give you a new heart and put
a new Spirit within you; I will remove
your heart of stone and give you a
heart of flesh. And I will put My Spirit
within you and cause you to walk in
My statues and carefully observe
My ordinances.

Ezekiel 36:26,27

When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior it’s done purely by faith. Faith in knowing Jesus is the Son of God who pre-existed in heaven then put on flesh and was born of a virgin into our world. He preached the message of repentance, the need to turn away from worldly sin living a life that is Holy before the living God, and teaching people to believe in His Works and the One who sent Him. Then He was crucified so He could become the sacrifice for the sins of the world and to usher in the New Covenant. After His death He rose on the third day, showed Himself to the Apostles, to hundreds of His disciples before ascending back to the Father.

There’s only one way any of us can keep God’s commandments, it’s through Faith in the Son of God, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Revelation 14:12 tells us;

Here is the Holy Ones, those who keep the commands of God and the faith of Yeshua/Jesus.

So, if one believes in the Lord Christ Jesus you must also believe we’re called to follow Him, to do His works and live Holy. But when I look at our world today, it seems many Christians have embraced a worldly lifestyle and forgotten the whole reason the Lord Jesus died for us in the first place.

Have You Fallen For These Illusions?

As I journey through the scriptures I realize there is an extreme polar opposite between the world we live in today and the ways of God. Our world is full of illusions and deceptions which many people are falling for daily. Maybe Christianity should take a bolder stance so people understand these issues satan presents. These illusions and deceptions are the work of master illusionist, satan. In John 8:44 we’re told;

You are of your father the devil, and your will is
to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer
from the beginning, and does not stand in the
truth, because there is no truth in him. When
he lies, he speaks of his own character, for he
is a liar and the father of lies.

From this scripture, Jesus tells us exactly who satan is. He is a liar, a deceiver and his whole end game is to destroy mankind. But knowing how deceitful satan is, have you ever fallen for any of his illusions?

Illusion # 1: This life is all that matters

Day to day we find ourselves getting so caught up in this life worrying over finances, bills, family, children, health, employment and money that we tend to forget this life is only temporary. Our worldly lives are short, but, we are so consumed with everything this world offers that we ignore the eternal realities. But God said,

“What does it profit a man to gain the
whole world, yet forfeit his soul?”

Mark 8:36

Illusion #2: If it feels good, do it

Our society is riddled with rules and some are actual commandments which God instilled to the Jewish people. For instance, if a person in our society is attacked or murdered the perpetrator will be arrested and sentenced. If someone is caught stealing, the thief is arrested for their crime. So, by in large, society knows the difference between right and wrong.

The one who practices sin is of the devil,
because the devil has been sinning from the
very start. This was why the Son of God was
revealed, to destroy the works of the devil.

1 John 3:8

Illusion #3: There is no Hell

One of the oldest lies satan uses is, there is no hell. Unfortunately, even many Christians have fallen for this one. Satan will try to convince you that there’s nothing to worry about since there is no hell. And while the Bible uses words like, Gehenna, Lake of fire, or lake of fire and sulfur, the intention is very clear, it is a burning fire. But, what do the scriptures tell us;

And do not fear those who kill the body
but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear
Him who is able to destroy both soul
and body in hell (Gehenna).

Matthew 10:28

But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the
detestable, as for murderers, the sexually
immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars,
their portion will be in the lake that
burns with fire and sulfur, which is the
second death.

Revelation 21:8

Gehenna, or the valley of Hinnom, was South of Jerusalem where ancient Israelites passed their children through the fire sacrificing them to the pagan idol Molech. In later years Gehenna continued to be an unclean place used for burning trash, sewage, dead animals, and corpses of criminals were often thrown there to be destroyed. Maggots and worms crawled throughout the waste making it a disgusting, vile, repulsive, filthy place to the nose, and eyes. Jesus used Gehenna due to it’s vivid imagery as a depiction of Hell.

Illusion #4: Everyone goes to Heaven

Unfortunately, another lie believed by many is that everyone goes to Heaven. But Jesus has told us over and over that those who follow the ways of the world, who refuse to repent of their sins and change their way of life will have eternal punishment.

“Then he will say to those on His left, Depart
from Me, you cursed, into the eternal fire
prepared for the devil and his angels.“

Matthew 25:41

Satan continues to flood this world with his illusions, lies and deceptions, but, the choice is yours, so, make the right one!

Who Jesus Really Is

I came across this scripture today and thought with everything going on around us it’s the perfect time to confirm exactly who Jesus is. The scripture I’m referring to states;

Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son
of God, God abides in him, and he in God.
And we have known and believed the love
that God has for us. God is love, and he who
abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

1John 4:15,16

This scripture alone confirms who Jesus is, the Son of God. But there are many today who ridicule, mock, and even detest the name of Jesus. Instead of putting their faith in Him, they choose the ways of this world. They choose science, politics, ideologies, money, and worldly pleasures which are all man made standards before putting their trust in the Creator of the world.

Jesus came to teach the ways of God, to save us. Christianity is not a religion, nor a cult it is a way lifestyle which God wants Christians, believers, to live. All we need to do is believe in Jesus, in who He is, in who sent Him God the Father, believe on His name, repent of our sins, and walk in light instead of darkness. We’re called to live a righteous lifestyle so we can experience a relationship with God. But our culture would rather mock Jesus for who He is and what He did for us. As I’ve said before whether one is an atheist, pagan, gnostic or has an LGBTQ lifestyle, it doesn’t really matter. Because if you can choose to mock Jesus, just know one thing, He is coming back and when He does it will be one of Judgement.

Blessing in a Grocery Store

Early this afternoon I had to run to the grocery store to pick up a few things and I met one of the sweetest Christian ladies I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet. Ms. Ester and her friend Sterling was looking at pizzas and discussing which kind to get when I approached them and handed them a gospel track from my purse. As a follower of Jesus we’re all called to pick up our cross daily and follow Him. So anytime I leave my home I keep gospel tracks in my purse that I can give out.

Turns out they are Christians also so we shared such a heart warming conversation in the Lord. Because it is so difficult to find like minded people in our society even in Churches today. The Bible tells us to be in unity but the Church is under attack and as a Christian we must all do our part to follow Jesus words. To love one another, encourage, and to provide as much support as possible as we can for one another. I was thrilled to get to talk to them about the Lord Jesus. She was so encouraging, so genuine and I could feel the love as she spoke about the Lord. I was so happy and it warmed my heart so much. Before we parted I was able to get a hug from them which left me feeling renewed, thankful, inspired, and strengthened. And as I left the store I was praising the Lord for putting Ms. Ester and Sterling in my path and providing such a heart warming conversation that offered, love, encouragement and the ability to strengthen my faith. Because Jesus Christ told us;

For where two or three are gathered together
in My name, there am I in the midst of them.

Matthew 18:20

So remember, you never know who the Lord will send or put in your path and the sweet blessing He has instore. Hopefully, this story will encourage others to take a leap in faith, trust the Lord Jesus and pray to share the gospel with non-believers as well as other believers. Confessing Jesus

As I continue my journey through the scriptures I’ve come across numerous Bible verses which provides information on who Jesus Christ is? Unfortunately, many Christians today only believe because it’s what their Christian leaders or pastor has instructed, however, I think we must “truly” believe and understand. Mainly because we are told that God is looking for those who worship in Spirit and Truth so it’s something I felt I needed to explore. Below are a few of the scriptures I decided to share, but, there are many more. The scriptures read;

Philippians 2:9,11(NKJV) – Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Philippians 2:9,11(Peshitta) – Because of this, God has also greatly exalted Him and He has given Him The Name which is greater than all names, That in The Name of Yeshua, every knee shall bow, which is in Heaven and in The Earth and which is under The Earth, and every tongue shall confess that Yeshua The Messiah is THE LORD JEHOVAH to the glory of God His Father.

Notice in the Peshitta (Aramaic Bible) the name Jehovah is placed after THE LORD. But is this Biblical? To ensure I was understanding correctly, I pulled out my study Bible and this is how the same scripture is written, it reads;

Philippian 2:9,11 (AMP) – For this reason also [because He obey and so completely humbled Himself], God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW [in submission], of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess and openly acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord (sovereign God), to the glory of God the Father.

It seems the word Lord implies the word God. But to provide additional information let’s look at another scripture to re-enforce this, the scripture reads;

John 1:1,2 (NKJV) – In the beginning was The Word, and The Word was with God, and The Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.

So The Word pre-existed with God, and, we’re told, He is God. But as I continued reading I came across two scriptures which provide additional information, they read;

John 1:14 (NKJV) – And The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:18 (NKJV) – No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

What’s important to note is in John 1:18 if you look at the footnotes, it states only begotten God. And remember the scripture found in Zechariah, which also correlates to a scripture found in Revelation, they state;

Zechariah 12:10 (NASB) – And I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of pleading, so that they will look at Me whom they pierced; and they will mourn for Him, like one mourning for an only SON, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn.

Revelation 1:7 – Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.

To help tie all these scriptures together, I’ve listed a few below to ensure there is no question who Jesus is, they read;

Revelation 1:8 – I am the Alpha and Omega, says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.“

Isaiah 43:10 – “You are my witnesses,” declares the LORD, “and my servant whom I have chosen,
that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed,
nor shall there be any after me.

Isaiah 43:15 – I am the LORD, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King.”

And final scriptures I want to share which reads;

Colossians 1:15-20 (Peshitta) – He who is the image of The Unseen God and is The Firstborn of all creation. 16By him was everything created which is in Heaven and in The Earth: everything that is seen and everything that is unseen, whether Thrones or Dominions or Principalities or Rulers; everything has been created by his hand and in him. 17And he is The One who is before all, and all things exist by him. 18And he is The Head of the body which is the church, for he is The Head and The Firstborn from among the dead, that he would be Preeminent in everything, 19For in him All Fullness is pleased to dwell, 20And to reconcile all things by him to Itself, and by him It made peace by the blood of his crucifixion, whether of things that are in Earth or that are in Heaven.

Psalm 45:6,7 (BSB) – Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever, and justice is the scepter of your Kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you above your companions with the oil of joy.

What does all this mean?

Well, from my journey it means, Jesus existed as the Word of God, who was also God. He came in the flesh, was given the title of SON by God and when He returns He will be revealed as Lord God or Jehovah.

Now that you have this information, what will you believe?

Spending Time With Christ

There’s so much going on in the world today that it seems many Christians find it impossible to spend time in God’s word. Whether it’s due to work, family time, or pleasure many Christians rarely open their Bibles. Many attend Church, but, as soon as service is over the preacher’s lesson is often forgotten. Please understand, I’m not judging or condemning because this is a lesson I had to learn for myself.

But the truth is reading God’s word is crucial because it helps us to build a relationship with Christ by reading what He taught and allowing us to put His teachings into practice. You see, if we only read the words and not practice what He taught we’re deceiving ourselves. Because it’s the Word which teaches us right from wrong and helps us to follow Christ the way He instructs. It teaches us discernment, keeps us from following false teachers and allows us to fight the enemy by applying God’s Word to the many snares he sets. Remember these words of Jesus, which read;

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I
came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

John 10:10

Jesus gave us tools to fight the enemy and with what’s on the horizon we need every tool available to fight against what’s coming!
