Eternal Damnation

This morning I was listening to a podcast and it brought up an interesting subject that you don’t hear many Church leaders talk about today, in fact, some Christians don’t even believe in it. I’m referring to what Jesus and his Apostles taught about the lake of fire or what is often referred to as hell. But I must say there is a difference between the lake of fire and hell. The Lake of Fire is an eternal fire that is the second death. It is not an eternal torture as many Christians were taught, but, the second death.

People often give many different answers to this question, but, the top ones are, Jesus was all about love so I don’t believe He would send anyone to hell, or, they’ll say, I’m a good person so I don’t think I’ll go to hell. While others will completely avoid talking about it by stating, I don’t believe in hell.

But what does the Bible teach about the lake of fire or hell?

Jesus made several references to being sentenced to the lake of fire along with His Apostles and the Prophets. But what I was interested in is how it was described.

Matthew 8:12 – But the Sons of the Kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Matthew 25:41 – Then He will also say to those on His left, Depart from Me, you accursed people, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;

Revelation 21:8 – But for the cowardly, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and sexually immortal persons, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

Matthew 13:50 – So it will be at the end of the age: the angels will come forth and remove the wicked from among the righteous, and they will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Mark 9:43 – And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed, than, having your two hands, to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire. And if your foot is causing you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life without a foot, than, having your two feet, to be thrown into hell. And if your eye is causing you to sin throw it away; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, than, having two eyes, to be thrown into hell, where THEIR WORM DOES NOT DIE, AND THE FIRE IS NOT EXTINGUISHED. For everyone will be salted with fire.

Jude 1:7 – And don’t forget Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring towns, which were filled with immorality and every kind of sexual perversion. Those cities were destroyed by fire and serve as a warning of the eternal fire of God’s judgment.

2 Peter 2:4 – For God did not spare even the angels who sinned. He threw them into hell, in gloomy pits of darkness where they are being held until the day of judgment.

Revelation 20: 14 – Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

No doubt in my mind hell exist, but, for those of you who are undecided or don’t believe hell exist, I suggest writing these scriptures down, keeping them close so you can refer to them or better yet, do your own study of it. Because what I have found is the Bible teaches hell is real, and it’s reserved for the wicked. The ESV puts it this way;

But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

Revelation 21:8

Remember, our choices and actions have consequences. We can enter eternal life or continue living in sin and enter eternal damnation.

The last time hell is mentioned in the Bible is in Revelation 20: 14 which states: “death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.” Can you show me a scripture where they were separated after that? I don’t find any.
The last enemy to be destroyed is death. Do you believe that the second death is included in it, or do you believe that the second death will go on forever?
If you believe that hell is forever, you’re going to have to believe that the second death is forever, too, because hell and death are both together in the lake of fire (the second death)
Romans 6: 23 doesn’t state that the penalty for sin is torment in hell. It clearly says that it’s death. The erroneous teaching that hell is “forever” has been believed because the translators mistranslated the words “aion” and “olam” as “forever” when the correct translation is “age-lasting.” Yes, there is a hell and horrific punishment for sinners, but it’s not forever. The blood of Jesus paid for the penalty for sin IN FULL, hallelujah!
Jesus is the savior of ALL the world, my sister…. ESPECIALLY of those who believe! (1 Timothy 4: 10)

The New Testament Greek equivalent to Sheol is Hades which is also a general reference to the place of the dead. It’s not hell. Sheol was a word to describe the realm of the dead. A place of the dead for departed souls.

The lexicon uses the word Hades not hell. Here’s the link.

The lake of fire is the FINAL hell which is a place for the unrepentant
Whether they’re angelic or human. Those who are in it suffer eternal agony that never stops.

Makes more sense when one reads the text as death and Hades was thrown into the lake of fire, which is the second death.

Those who have rejected christ and are in the Shoel/Hades place will be thrown into the lake of fire which is the eternal damnation.

To me that is a living nightmare, it is hell.

You have made an excellent point Robin, but your reply does not address the fact that the penalty for sin is death, not eternal torment. Doesn’t the blood of Jesus cover and pay for both the first death AND the second death which is also called the lake of fire where Hades and the wicked are? I believe ALL death will be no more, not just the first death.

If it is true that the wicked will be endlessly tormented as you say, that would make them immortal, but 1 Timothy 6: 16 states that ONLY God (or God ALONE) is immortal which includes those in His body who put on immortality. His head and his body are “ONE,” therefore they too, are immortal.
Nowhere in the bible does it state that the wicked are immortal, but instead that they will be “no more.” (Proverbs 12: 7, Psalm 37: 10, Psalm 37: 20, and Malachi 4: 1 specifically states that they will be “burned up,” not live forever in the lake of fire.)

This is a site that goes into great detail concerning hell: https://bibleask.org/is-hell-forever/?amp=1 If you disagree with anything on it, I would like to know as your point on Hades was very insightful. I appreciated it and you Robin.

Hey Michele thank you so much for the link I will definitely be reading up on it. I don’t know about the immortal issue yet, haven’t gotten to that point and definitely need more study on it. But, I do understand the scriptures given in Psalm and will re-read them.

I just think as Christians we need to let people know there are consequences for rejecting Christ or for falling away.

I believe this is part of the issue plagueing our Churches today. And since we are all called to be disciples how much of a disservice are we doing to those when we don’t speak of these things which Jesus and His Apostles spoke of. Know what I mean? Our sin has consequences, denial has consequences but how will the list know this if we only speak of God’s love.

My heart grieves for the lost.

Thank you so much sister Michele and God bless will be sharing a very interesting dream shortly.

I agree my sister. There is most definitely the consequence of being cast into hell where great, great torment will be experienced by the wicked. God will punish them to the utmost, but “forever” tormenting people is not His nature…. He cried out on the cross “Father, forgive them: They KNOW NOT what they do.” Remember that no one can come to God UNLESS He draws them, and contrary to popular teaching, we did not choose Him: HE chose us. Look at the Apostle who was knocked off his horse and made blind….

Each man will come in his own order and in the end of the ages when everything is restored, EVERY knee is going to bow and confess that Jesus is Lord. Hallelujah!

In the mean time, we are called to warn every man that there is a hell… Yes God is love, but there is also the severity of God that they will face if they reject Him. Many, many, many woes will be theirs and how we must cry out with tears and prayers on their behalf.

Bless and bless you more Robin…. You are a true worshipper and seeker, and I thank God for your being in my life. There are not many like you.

That’s so sweet of you sister Michele, like you I just want the truth, because like Jesus said, the truth will set you free. I’m very blessed as well that you are in my life as well, especially, during these times.

And I understood what you were pointing out to me in the post so I went in and made a few updates. Thank you so much for that. As the Church this is exactly what we’re called to do…So, thank you, thank you, thank you my beloved sister….

Hey getting ready to post my dream and think you’ll find it very interesting…..

I agree with you, people do reject Christ. But there will be Christians who think they are saved and are not. They live a life that is worldly, sinful and while they claim the title of Christian the Bible teaches they are not.

Thank you so much for the comment and God Bless you…Robin

Revelation 21: 8 states that: “the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and sorcerers, and adulterers, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone.” Yes, thank God, if we receive Jesus and abide in Him enduring until the end, our souls shall be saved. Our spirits are saved, but if we don’t work out the salvation of our souls with fear and trembling, our souls shall not be saved and we will have our part with the unbelievers as this scripture in Revelation states.
Bless you my brother. We have all been taught error and mixture, and much seeking to know the truth must take place for us to get set free. Not everyone who sees the kingdom of God shall enter it. We must cleanse ourselves of all filthiness of flesh and spirit in order to do so and have our souls saved.
May God give you and all of us the grace to seek until we find.

I believe it as a literal hell as well eternal lake of fire. Our spirit is eternal. We can choose life or death and eternity is forever. 🕊🙏🏻 Places God never intended for anyone yet it’s created for those who reject all that is GOD; the only GOD, good and love and truth. 🤍 Peace & grace. My thoughts. 🕊
